Tokyo, Japan (Residing in Vessel) · Origin: Ancient Heian Japan
anitroves.com/ryomen-sukunaAbout
Ryomen Sukuna is the undisputed King of Curses and the most fearsome entity in the modern jujutsu world. Originally a human sorcerer of unmatched power during the Heian period (~794–1185 CE), Sukuna’s abilities were so overwhelmingly catastrophic that the combined effort of every sorcerer of his era could not destroy him outright. Upon death, his cursed energy crystallized into twenty indestructible fingers — each classified as a Special Grade cursed object. In the modern era, his power re-emerged through the vessel Yuji Itadori, and later through complete possession of Megumi Fushiguro. Ruthless, amoral, and possessing a rare aesthetic appreciation for strength and beauty, Sukuna operates entirely by his own code — engaging only in what genuinely interests or amuses him. He acknowledges no allies, recognizes no authority, and has demonstrated the singular distinction of being the only entity in recorded jujutsu history to defeat Satoru Gojo. His existence is not a threat to be contained — it is a force of nature to be endured.

Skills
Ryomen Sukuna commands the most comprehensive and destructive cursed technique arsenal in jujutsu history. His signature innate techniques are Cleave — an adaptable slashing attack that scales to the target’s cursed energy and durability — and Dismantle, a fixed-output slashing technique deployed in rapid volleys. At their convergence lies his Domain Expansion: Malevolent Shrine (伏魔御廚子), the largest and most destructive domain on record, which dispenses with a conventional bounded field entirely, instead establishing a binding vow with the surrounding environment to extend its sure-hit range over a radius exceeding 200 meters. Within the shrine’s range, Cleave and Dismantle auto-apply to every living target. Sukuna also possesses complete mastery of the Reverse Cursed Technique, enabling near-instantaneous regeneration of any damage including catastrophic injuries. In Megumi’s body, he gained access to the Ten Shadows Technique — including the taming and integration of Mahoraga’s World Cutting Slash, an attack that phases through all conventional defenses including Gojo’s Infinity. Supplementary abilities include Flood Dragon Crest (Fire Arrow) and creation of independent portals via Shrine.

Biography & Chronological History
Birth — Heian Japan
Born in the Heian period as a human sorcerer with a cursed energy output so extraordinary that no recorded framework existed to classify it. From the earliest accounts, no sorcerer of his era could match him individually.
Rise to Dominance — King of Curses
Subjugated every cursed spirit and curse user of the Heian period, earning the title “King of Curses.” He was the undisputed sovereign of the cursed world, and every entity in it either served him or feared him.
Death & Crystallization — 20 Indestructible Fingers
The combined sorcerers of the Heian era managed to kill his human body — but could not destroy his cursed energy. His power crystallized into twenty indestructible fingers, each a Special Grade cursed object, ensuring his eventual return.
Fingers Rediscovered — Special Grade Classification
Sukuna’s twenty fingers were rediscovered and scattered across Japan. Each was classified as a Special Grade cursed object — the highest threat designation — and their containment became a primary concern of Jujutsu Headquarters.
Yuji Itadori — First Vessel
Yuji Itadori consumed the first finger, awakening Sukuna within him. Yuji’s extraordinary resilience allowed him to suppress Sukuna and reclaim control — an unprecedented feat that forced Sukuna into a subordinate position within the vessel.
Shibuya Incident — Malevolent Shrine
Using a Binding Vow negotiated with Itadori, Sukuna deployed Malevolent Shrine across Shibuya — one of the most devastating events in modern jujutsu history. Thousands killed. Megumi Fushiguro saved from Mahoraga, establishing his interest in the Ten Shadows Technique.
Megumi Fushiguro — Complete Possession
Achieved complete possession of Megumi Fushiguro, specifically targeting him for the Ten Shadows Technique. Tamed Mahoraga — never controlled by any previous user — and incorporated its World Cutting Slash into his arsenal.
Shinjuku Showdown — Defeat of Satoru Gojo
Defeated Satoru Gojo in a climactic battle in Shinjuku through Malevolent Shrine, World Cutting Slash (bypassing Infinity), and adaptive strategy. The only entity in recorded history to accomplish this feat.

Key Relationships
Yuji Itadori
Primary Vessel — Adversarial
Sukuna views Yuji with contempt and occasional curiosity — a surprisingly resilient container, nothing more. Their shared body created one of the series’ central tensions.
Megumi Fushiguro
Chosen Vessel — Strategic Target
Specifically selected for the Ten Shadows Technique. Complete possession of Megumi represents Sukuna’s first fully autonomous operation in the modern era.
Satoru Gojo
Greatest Rival — Defeated Opponent
The only opponent Sukuna acknowledged as near-equal. Their Shinjuku battle is the defining conflict of Jujutsu Kaisen. Sukuna’s victory is the most significant event in modern jujutsu history.
Uraume
Loyal Ancient Retainer
An ice-technique curse user serving Sukuna for over a millennium — the only entity Sukuna has permitted in a role of continued service. Uraume’s loyalty is total and unquestioned.
Kenjaku
Loose Collaborator — Mutual Utility
Kenjaku’s schemes aligned with Sukuna’s re-emergence without a true alliance. Sukuna tolerates Kenjaku as useful, nothing more.
Hajime Kashimo
Respected Combat Opponent
One of few modern sorcerers Sukuna acknowledged as worthy of genuine engagement. Kashimo challenged Sukuna to die fighting the King of Curses — a request Sukuna honored.
Mahoraga
Subjugated — World Cutting Slash
The most dangerous Ten Shadows shikigami — never tamed by any previous user. Sukuna tamed and destroyed it to incorporate the World Cutting Slash into his own arsenal.
Yuta Okkotsu
Significant Opponent — Post-Gojo
After Gojo’s death, Yuta emerged as the most capable remaining threat. His copied RCT and technique mimicry make him the primary opposing force.

Cultural Impact
“Do not make me repeat myself” and “I don’t care about good or evil” are globally quoted. Sukuna’s aesthetic — regal amorality, pink hair, tattoos, white kimono — is among the most recognizable villain designs in modern anime.
Academic Coverage
Referenced in analyses of the “villain as force of nature” archetype — a character whose threat stems from absolute indifference to human values rather than conventional evil motivation.
Creator Notes
Gege Akutami described Sukuna as designed to be incompatible with conventional morality — operating on a plane where human ethics are simply irrelevant to him.
